Bistro Du Vin

Just realised that today is the 30th & we have been married for 7 months! No wonder mummy dearest called me and told me not to come home tonight, cuz she must have wanted me and Leecher to celebrate our "monthiversary". Well, no plans for any fancy dinner - maybe just a simple meal together at the coffee shop opp our place. Well, at least Leecher brought me on a date sometime last year @ Bistro Du Vin, part of Les Amis chain of restaurant. Bistro Du Vin served classical french food & has 2 outlets - the first outlet is located @ Shaw Centre while the sister outlet is located @ Zion Road, which opened this Feb.

We went to the outlet located @ Shaw center :)

The chalkboard signage placed outside that highlights the latest dishes offered.

Table setting - love the checkered napkins, instead of the usual white napkins.

The place seats up to 62 guests, but reservations is strongly encouraged! See how packed the tiny place is on a Wednesday night.

Leecher with the menu and taking his own sweet time to order, lol!

Butter & bread to start the evening. Bread was served warm, with the usual butter.

Waiting for food! Hungry hungry!

Pan seared foie gras with prune compote - foie gras is a must-have whenever we dine at a French restaurant (or whenever I feel like having it!). One of the biggest slab that I've come across, but certainly not the best - for it was quite oily and both of us felt the urge to order tea to cleanse the stomach.

Char-grilled Australian Angus Ribeye with fries - fries, served in a separate plate, were cut too thick for my liking. The ribeye was juicy but there were too much fats that I had a hard time chewing.

Suckling pig confit, choucroute and bacon - Leecher wanted to order one of their signature dish and was debating b/w duck confit and suckling pig confit. In the end, he chose the latter. You get to choose b/w the belly or leg, with different pricing, of course. The dish started out pretty good in the beginning - Leecher was surprised at the melt-in-your-mouth experience. However, towards the middle, the jerlak feeling surfaced & it was a struggle to finish the meal. I had a taste of the meat - no doubt it was tender, but too salty for my liking.

All in all, not a very good (food-tasting) experience. I would have expected fancier plating but I guess simplicity is the key word here. No garnishes, nothing fanciful - just meat on the plate and there you go. Despite the cosy ambience they have created, doubt we will return in anytime soon.
