Honeymoon: L'Angle Cafe/Restaurant

******
Back to work on a Monday & the start of the new month, yet again. Been feeling a lil under-the-weather recently but still enduring a visit to the doc for I don't really like to take medication. I used to have a phobia on swallowing pills when I was younger thinking that the pills will be stuck in my throat ~ I will dissolve the pills in the water and drink that instead, haha! What a way to torture myself, as the after-taste will stay in my mouth. As I grew up, I've learn how to swallow pills and suddenly, my life became a lot easier. Even so, I still don't like seeing the doc unless absolutely necessary. I guess I'll just need to rest more & let my body recover by itself :)

We were famished after a long day and walked into the first cafe that appeared within our sights for lunch. L'Angle Cafe/Restaurant is situated along the corner of the apartment.

If you're stuck on Champs Elysees and don't want to get "carrot-headed" with crappy tourist restaurant fare, you can head to this cafe for a simple (inexpensive) meal away from the crowd.

We always start with a glass of wine. This time round, we ordered rose wine from Cotes de Provence AOC (€5.20 for 25cl glass). Cotes de Provence AOC is the largest appellation in Provence, accounting for almost 73% of all wine produced, with 88% of the production being rose.

Cheers!

Cotes de Provence roses are typified by a bright pale pink colour. Fresh, exotics fruits dominate, accompanied by floral and spicy notes. They are best served chilled - the one we had wasn't served chilled. Nevertheless, it was well-balanced and smooth.

Soupe à l'oignon also known as french onion soup (€7). OMG, this was absolutely tasty! They placed a bowl of cheese by the side that we can add in. Instead of drinking it directly from the bowl, I prefer to dip the bread into the soup and eat it.

Our mains consisted of Confit de Canard (duck confit, €11.50) and Poulet Roti (roast chicken, €11.50). Duck confit was extremely delicious - the skin was crispy and slightly salty much to the delight of Leecher's tastebud. Chicken was tender and juicy too. Besides the above, you also get to choose from a range of mains like salmon tartar, cod loin, grilled beef steak, hamburgers etc.

Ended the meal with Creme Brulee Vanille (€6). The serving was bigger than I thought, but good enough for sharing :)

BKK Work Trip, June 2012: Dinner at Eve

*******
It was a long day for me & instead of heading out for dinner, I chose to have my meals in the hotel restaurant. While debating on what to eat, I flipped through the guide and saw that  Hansar's four unique dining concepts - Eve, Cafe Boca, Vue and Zest - offer a wide variety of food for everyone's tastebuds. After much deliberation, I settled for Eve.
I was tempted to take a shower before going down. However, my stomach protested "loudly", so I had to change out of my heels to a pair of comfy flats and proceeded downstairs for dinner.
Service was prompt & it felt like dining with the king, haha! The seat was plush and comfy.

A basket of assorted breads came swiftly once I made my orders.

I ordered a cocktail, but it turned out bitter & I left it untouched after several sips. The waiters saw it and asked me if the cocktail wasn't to my liking. I explained that it was too bitter for me. They immediately sent me the wine/drinks list and offered to change another drink (free-of-charge). I was really impressed by their attentiveness & service! My day is really too good to be true - I get a free room upgrade in the morning and now, I'm being treated like a queen, haha!

I ordered an alcoholic fruit punch in the end.

I had french foie gras (pan-fried with dehydrated raspberry, xerex jus) for starters. It was really good - it literally melts in your mouth.

Sorbet to cleanse the palate before serving the main course.

Atlantic Maine Lobster (pesto fergola pearls, wilted spinach & garlic herb butter)

Need to head off to bed now, good night/morning!

Honeymoon: Dinner at Yuppies Cafe

I believe that in life, you win some & you'll lose some. We had an enjoyable time at the Lourve earlier in the day, but we didn't have much luck with our meals. I missed our lunch appointment @ Benoit, a 100th year old Parisian Bistro to get starred by the Michelin Guide; I did not have much luck with dinner either :( We headed to one of the recommended cafes only to found that it had closed down. Thus, we settled our dinner @ Yuppies Cafe, located within walking distance from the hotel.

You get a choice of outdoor or indoor seating. We chose indoor for I wanted to escape from the cold and also, not be a victim of passive smoking. The interior was lit by these hanging lampshades in various sizes and colours. It felt as if mid-autumn festival came early, haha!
Leecher with the simple 1 page laminated menu in hand.

I can't wait for food to be served #famish!
Like to make a guess on which glass of wine belongs to who?

In case you're wondering, we didn't finish the wine that fast. I had empty glasses on my side of the table, lol!
If you have guessed that I went for white, sorry to disappoint you :( I went for red this time round :) Leecher ordered the white as he was having fish as his main course.
Snacks - these were extremely addictive! Goes very well with our wines too.

Waiting waiting waiting ...

Finally, dinner is served :) Daily fish (€18) for Leecher while I went for sliced curry chicken (€16). I wanted to order burger initially, but my craving for rice was stronger. Leecher always says I'm a which literally translate into rice bucket.
