Asia Grand Restaurant

Back from the land of peking duck! Feels so great to be home after every trip (minus the current heat wave as Beijing's temp was way better!) Anyway, meet up with Uni group for a night of Chinese food.

Khim Khim recommended Asia Grand Restaurant this time round. I think this is the 1st time we actually go for Chinese food during our outings! As much as I love other cuisines, chinese food still forms a large part of my diet. And, I can't go without my rice. The place was relatively full on a Friday night - thanks to Kenneth dear for making the reservation :)

Yaozu, Leecher and me were the first to arrive! Hunger pangs struck us and we decided to order appetizers to munch on while waiting for the rest to arrive. Their signature appetizer - assorted pickled capsicum with cucumber and fishcakes. Quite a refreshing dish! The fishcakes were so chewy that I almost finished all while the guys have to settle on the vegetables - sorry guys!

Peking duck! The way we ate our peking duck is slightly different from those in Beijing - more on that when I have time to blog about the Beijing trip. Nevertheless, love love peking duck - the crepe, duck meat, crackers and all. We ordered the 8 course meal to share b/w us, which comes with steamed fish, salad prawns, ee fu noodles, duck soup (mad love this soup that we had 2nd helpings), vegetables with mushrooms, duck meat and dessert. We had to rush off after dinner, hence couldn't take a group pic :( but, there's always next time ~

Mummy's Bdae 2011

Celebrated Mummy dearest bdae 2 weeks back. Leecher specially went to get mummy's bdae cake @ awfully chocolate.

Happy birthday Mummy dearest! You're the best mummy that anyone can have in this world.

Birthdays are meant to be spent with loved ones - nothing that I would trade for in this world.

Dinner with Winston

Quick post before boarding my flight to Beijing ~ Being the anchor-blogger of this blog, updates for this week maybe slow, so please bear with me :)

Dinner with Winston after work to catch up on his wedding preparations. The 4th wedding bells that have rung thus far this year :) Not forgetting, he just got his apartment & it's going to be just a stone throw's away from my place, yippee!

GE 2011

The scorecard is out, results finalised for GE 2011. With this election, residents of Aljunied have voted in an alternative voice in the Parliament, with Worker's Party as their representative! Kudos to the residents for making this choice :) Thus, a short entry on my GE journey before I fly off to Beijing to escape from the scorching hot weather.

Our 2nd chance to vote @ GE, with the first in 2006. To kick-off our GE adventure, we attended the Worker's Party 1st rally @ Hougang.

Look at the crowd that turned out! Gosh, I can't even see where the stage was and just edged my way forward, so that we can listen to the speeches.

Ice-cream uncle hopping onto the bandwagon to cash in more business :)

We decided to go up one of the nearby blocks. Boy, what a scene we saw when we were on the 10th floor! News reported that the turnout was more than 20k, far more impressive than PAP's turnout!

Yaozu was drenched in sweat from climbing up/down the stairs, lol!

Leecher decided that he wants to be top of the world (at the playground). "This is what Cool Looks Like"

Attended the finale of WP's rally @ Serangoon Stadium with Nijun & Fling. At the junction towards the stadium, we even have police controlling the traffic! People were shouting "Worker's Party! Worker's Party!" as they walked towards the stadium.

All united as one, as we listened to the speeches given by each and every candidate.

For those who didn't manage to get into the stadium, they sat outside on the grass patches & pavements, supporting the candidates with their cheers!

My polling card - a privilege that I had since I turned 21. Thanks to the opposition, some of my peers have their 1st chance at voting.

Back to my alma mater to cast my vote. I'm so glad that WP broke through the GRC system and won Aljunied, but utterly sad that Mrs Chiam lost Potong Pasir with just a razor-thin margin. Well, I guess that's life - you win some, you lose some.

Leecher's Bdae Treat from Kaiwei

Leecher's birthday treat from Kaiwei and I'm invited as well! Woohoo! Being invited meant that I have to blog for this entry to earn my meal (who's the one always blogging, anyway?)

Went to Uluru, located at Duxton Hill for our meal. This restaurant is named after the famous Uluru rock, commonly known as the Ayers Rock, located in the southern part of the Northern Territory.

Dips for our freshly baked bread. No bread comes close to beating those served @ Prive.

The guys will be full of work talk whenever they meet.

Both Yanni and I went for the 3-course set meal, which comes with Uluru's Caesar salad for starters.

Then, we had the 200 days Agnus Sirloin for mains while the guys settled for burgers. If you're feeling adventurous, take on the challenge of the $70 ultimate burger - stacked high with 3 layers of bread bun, 4 steak patties, endless flow of chips and salad. If you're able to finish the lot in 30 minutes, dinner's on the house!

Leecher can't wait to get his dinner started.

Dessert came in the form of lemongrass creme brulee; with assorted beries and vanilla ice cream. The lemongrass was simply refreshing and transported us to Bali for a second.

Since the night was still young, we went to CMPB @ Dempsey for chill-out session.

Minty drinks that don't really go well with my throat.

Ordered chicken wings to go with our drinks.

Brought a box of cakes from Duxton Hill earlier, as we were enticed by their display of cupcakes and wedding cakes.

Thanks for the treat, Kaiwei & Yanni :)

Leecher's Bdae Treat

The birthday celebration continued with a bdae treat @ Capricci.

Capricci, located along Tanjong Pagar road, is the latest creation of Massimo Aquaro. Translated into "caprices" in English, the aptly named restaurant offers fine Italian cuisines that seek to satisfy all its patrons. I've made the reservation 2 weeks in advance, just so we could secure a seat :)

The restaurant was relatively empty when I reached, even though I was already late for the reserved timing. Guess punctuality is not very high on Sporean's list, me guilty as charged. Leecher made me wait for 30 mins before he showed up, which the manager cheekily teased him by saying he's a very lucky man (to have me waiting for him!)

The 3 course meal for the bdae boy consisted of orange perfumed maguro tuna tartare with avocado puree (appetizer), lemon zest perfumed risotto with pan seared fresh scallop and sweet Spanish cherry wine reduction (mains) and finished the meal with bounette ala piemontese (cocoa pudding) with crushed amaretti biscuits.

3 course meal for me consisted of John Dee grass fed beef tenderloin tartare with truffle oil, shaved parmesan and arugula (appetizer), ravioli of authentic Italian cheese fondue and mushroom, on a bed of homemade sausage and cherry tomatoes (main) and my choice of sweet - panna cotta drizzled with strawberry coulis.

As usual, Leecher get to pick his wine for his dish. Look at how happy he is :)

Leecher's Bdae

No matter how busy I am, I'll nv forget to celebrate the birthdays of my loved ones. Leecher super 到 this year, cuz even mummy dearest put on her apron and made something for him. He was lamenting that I didn't bring him somewhere nice this year, but I have plans all set up, wa ha ha! More coming up :)
