Chilli Padi Nonya Restaurant

Time for a good treat to reward ourselves after a long day @ the flea. We got the foodie FMQ with us, so we headed down to Chilli Padi for our dinner :)

Thankfully for FMQ who lives around the area, she brought us to the venue safely :) If not, Leecher will be driving aimlessly around in circles.
Step into the Peranakan world!

The usual wall of fame (frame).
Just in time for last order, lol!
I've heard many rave reviews about their array of authentic Peranakan cuisine & that was also the reason why we decided to cater from their catering arm for our house-warming. Even though their catering arm didn't perform up to expectation, I was still gamed to give their restaurant a try.
Achar, which tasted ordinary according to the rest.
Lime juice & Fresh soupsop to quell the (expected) spiciness ~

Waiting for our food *stomach growling!* We arrived on the dot for last order, hence we just ordered whatever were on the recommended list & to serve dessert together with the rest of the dishes.
Kueh Pie Tee - you can't possibly stop at one! A lethal combination of crunchy "pie" & spicy belachan, this is why this item that is being raved by customers.
Sambal Kangkong ~ true Peranakan fare, topped with chilli. I had to wash this down with the lime juice afterwards, lol!
Ayam Buah Keluak ~ this is an acquired dish and I wasn't a fan of it, with the spices being used. The others were all full of praises for it .... guess I must be the odd one out then :)
Ngor Hiang, stuffed with minced pork, fried to a crispy perfection.

Durian Chendol, which Leecher wiped it out clean. I was worried that he would suffer a tummy upset later, but thankfully, his strong stomach managed to pull things through, haha!

Even though we ordered a table filled with dishes, somehow the meal didn't feel satisfying. So we headed off for another round ... of desserts!

Flea @ Scape, once again

Flea @ *scape Sky Terrance with the girls :) Leecher was grumbling that I've eaten into his space in our walk-in-wardrobe and that I had to clear my stuff or else, face punishment of my stuff being thrown away! Meanie! At the same time, Minqian & Fionn were facing wardrobe crisis too, so we decided to hold a flea to sell our pre-loved & brand new items. It has been almost quite a while since my last flea with the sisters.

Hate going to town on weekends cuz we had to pay for ERP, so the best thing to do? Get into town before the gantry starts charging. The event starts @ 1pm, so I thought I'll reach by 12 to reserve a 风水位 - to my surprise, when I reached at 12.15pm, a lot of tables were already taken up & store owners setting up for business. Managed to find a table and began setting up for business while waiting for FMQ & Fionn to arrive.
Setting up our store, completed with the portable clothes rack that I lugged from home.
Lady bosses for the day! We were all eager to kick-start our business, haha!
Unlike the previous flea which was held at the lower ground level of *scape, this flea was held on lvl 4 of the building ~ where it consisted of both indoor & outdoor space. Fleas are held almost every weekend (Sat & Sun), where rental for Sat is higher as compared to Sun.

It was quite a torture waiting for customers to come and visit your stall, waiting for them to browse through and finally making the purchase. Mostly came to look, browse through the rack before heading off to other stalls with the same routine. Fionn with her money bag, earning the first buck for the day.
Subsequently, we all made our first bucks for the day :) The joy of receiving money was definitely priceless!
The day was spent chit-chatting, exchanging gossips/updates and playing with the phone, in between waiting for customers to come patron our mini stall :)
Brought bread along to snack as time passed.
With a few hours left, we decided to drop the prices down to $2 bucks each, as we didn't want to carry the clothes back home. Really good bargain for all the bargain hunters!
Upcoming fleas around Singapore.

The stall opposite us enjoyed really good business! I think around 6 friends shared the stall and there were almost 5 luggages worth of clothes on the floor and tons more on the tables.

The stalls packing up & calling it a day.

At the eleventh hour, this auntie came along and wiped out all of our clothes! I even gave her my robinson bag to put all her purchases, thankful that I don't have much to carry back, lol!

Our tired yet happy faces ~ having cleared most of what we brought over :)

Tian Tian Chicken Rice

Happy April's Fool! I hope everyone survived their day well today without falling prey to jokes and tricks :) I enjoyed my long weekend break, feeling exhausted as I was busy keeping the house clean & tidy. That was also part of the reason why we are having lesser people @ our place now, since it was just too messy with things all over the place from my trips. I jerked out on bed on Sunday morning, thinking that I was late for work as the clock showed 8am, lol! Guess I must be too stressed out lately with all the hectic schedule .... that calls for a holiday trip soon!
After our visit to Forty Hands and Ben & Jerry's, we parted ways with the rest & headed to the hospital to visit my baby bro.

Walking on the roads #likeaqueen, since it was a Sunday and no cars were spotted along the way.
Taking pics with the "Reduce Speed" sign, lol!

Leecher with his artistic shot ~ I had to stand there for 5 mins while he tried to capture the best shot out of 20 + attempts.

It must be a tiring "climb" for the man who was dressed in jeans+long sleeve shirt in this weather.

Dinner @ Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice. Hainanese chicken rice has always been voted as Singapore's national dish (beating the likes of char kuay tiao & hokkien mee etc). When it comes to recommendations for the best chicken rice, Tian Tian is always on the recommended list. This humble stall has even gained the approval of Anthony Bourdain, who once said that the rice here is so good that you can eat it on its own.
I've been to the Maxwell outlet, where there are always long queue during lunch hour. This was my first time visiting the branch @ Joo Chiat road.
Steamed chicken hanging at the display window, enough to whet your appetite just looking at them!

For all food outlets, it is a must to showcast all the publicity given by the media, be it newspaper cuttings, being featured on foodie channels or taking pictures with famous celebrities. These are the standard SOPs in the F&B industry nowadays.
I've always thought that they do just chicken rice, but I was wrong. They have a full menu of not only chicken rice (their signature), but also other side dishes (zi char dishes) & porridge available too.

Leecher took an extremely long time with the menu ~ sometimes, guys are really more fickle-minded than girls. He even wanted to google for the recommended dishes before placing his order >,<

Just as he was taking his own sweet time with ordering, the tables in the restaurant got filled up.
I prefer my chilli with dark soy sauce while Leecher prefer his chilli plain.
Steamed 1/2 chicken for us to share. This was (deliberately) served slightly chilled.

The skin was smooth & the rice was fragrant - true to the testimonial of Anthony Bourdain - you can even eat the rice on its own! As for me, I had my quick chicken rice fix and would be back to try out more from their zi char collection.
